Posted July 19th, 2013 @ 7:07am

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) _ A Hendersonville man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty involving nine animals.
Henderson County sheriff's deputies say 39-year-old Jeffrey Scott Landers was charged after officers found a horse, two donkeys and six goats in poor condition at a barn in Etowah.
After a physical exam by a veterinarian, officers took the animals into protective custody.
The sheriff's office says Landers has relinquished ownership of the goats.
It was not clear if Landers has an attorney. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 2.
