Mars Volta founders Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala have teamed up with Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to form a new supergroup.
Along with one-time Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch, they debuted a new song called "4 AM" on Wednesday under the name Antemasque.
The new band may come as a bit of a surprise to Mars Volta fans following the group's breakup last year and a series of tweets from Cedric about Omar's apparent lack of commitment to Mars Volta.
Flea, meanwhile, seems to be surprised by the new band as well. He said in a tweet that he woke up to find out he's in a new supergroup, explaining that he just played on a few tracks with his friends "for love."
Woke to find out I'm in a new supergroup. Hahahaha. Played on some tracks a few weeks ago with my friends omar and Cedric for love that all— Flea (@flea333) April 9, 2014
