New Music Report: Expert Picks - Week of May 29th

Calum Scott

There has been a lot of great new music released over the last few weeks. You can find out what was released this weekend in our New Music Report, but take a look at what we've been listening to lately. Our editors Nicole, James, and Isha have shared some of their Expert Picks for the week. Check it out below:

Nicole's Picks:

Calum Scott - "She's Like The Wind"

Maybe I'm dating myself here, but the O.G. Dirty Dancing (like, from 1987) is my favorite movie of all time. And, I especially loved the soundtrack. So when ABC remade the classic, I knew I had to watch. What I will say about this movie is I really liked the music. There are a lot of different opinions floating around out there about this remake, but no matter how you feel, the soundtrack is definitely worth a listen. They recreated a lot of the songs from the original, and even added a few new ones (looking at you, Sarah Hyland!), but this one stuck out to me.

In the original Dirty Dancing, "She's Like The Wind" is performed by the one and only Patrick Swayze (which obviously no one can touch). But in the remake, it's Calum Scott who gives the song a fresh new modern makeover. Calum's more dance-y version is a little less dramatic than the original, but I love the way the piano plays throughout the track -- it's very light and dreamy. Which is appropriate because this song plays during the scene where Johnny leaves the Kellerman's resort, and Baby is reminiscing about their time together. 💔

Calum has a knack for remaking hit songs. Last year he released his version of Robyn's hit song "Dancing On My Own."

Tinashe - "Flame (Kaskade Remix)

While we are all waiting for some new original singles from Kaskade (or maybe an album?!), the producer/DJ has hit us with another great remix, this time with Tinashe's most recent single "Flame." As a Tinashe fan, I really liked "Flame" when it first came out ... but I absolutely LOVE what Kaskade has done to it in this remix -- it goes OFF. He keeps the integrity of T's vocals, but totally turns the post-chorus into a moment you'll just want to lose yourself in. Bop City: Population Tinashe & Kaskade.

James' Picks:

Joakim Molitor featuring Maia Wright - "Always Gonna Say Sorry"

Joakim Molitor returns to the scene with a track tailor-made for the dance floors. Teaming up with vocalist Maia Wright, "Always Gonna Say Sorry" is a fitting addition to the landscape, combining soothing vocals, guitar licks, and an energetic beat drop. It all screams music festival 2017. "The song is about staying in a relationship that should have ended a while back. The message of the track is to stop pretending, move on and stop trying to save what is not there anymore!" Joakim recently told iHeartRadio. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing this one very soon!

Dagny - "Wearing Nothing"

Dagny’s been doing her thing for a minute, but her new song, “Wearing Nothing,” might just propel her into the view of mainstream audiences. It’s a tropical-tinged pop track, which hears the newbie singing about being completely bare with someone on the emotional and physical ends. Fun fact: Dagny comes from Scandinavia, which also happens to be the homeland of Tove Lo and .

Isha's Picks:

Takeoff - "Intruder"

It’s finally happened! Migos’ Quavo and Offset have released their own solo songs on numerous occasions. They’ve even been featured on other rappers' tracks. But, Takeoff has yet to venture out on his own and drop his own single – until now. The third group member has released his first song “Intruder” and he definitely lets us know that he’s more than capable of flying solo dolo, just like his other Migos members. Shout out to him for finally showing us what he’s made of with his own project.

French Montana - "Unforgettable (Rae Sremmurd "Sremm" Remix)

French Montana’s “Unforgettable” single featuring Swae Lee is already on everyone’s summer playlist. But, the other half of Rae Sremmurd, Slim Jxmmi, has decided to add his bars to the smash and the added touch on the song is pretty cool. Jxmmi continues to give us the smooth vibes of the song with his verse, as he reminds us that he’s got skills, too. We’re not mad at this new twist on the single one bit. Listen to the Sremm remix of “Unforgettable” below and tell us what you think.
