Based on the novel by Markus Zusak, ‘The Book Thief’ follows the story of a little girl named Liesel as narrated by ‘Death’. After being given up for adoption, Liesel learns to fit in with her new family while learning to read and follow the doctrine of Hitler in WWII Nazi Germany. Through her books, her new papa, and a Jewish man named Max who her family hides from prosecution, Liesel finds her courage and her voice.

If you haven’t read ‘The Book Thief,’ do it. Now! The movie is well done and depicts the story, but the book is amazing. The cast was well chosen, and Geoffrey Rush is incredibly loveable as papa. I love that the screen writers kept ‘Death’ as the narrator, but I’m sad his part was so small. In the book he was more of a main character.

‘The Book Thief’ is an incredibly moving and heart felt story. Bring the tissues and make sure you check it out!
