Orange County Water Emergency

Chapel Hill declares state of emergency due to water shortage. Orange County Health Department is asking customers to not use water from their authority. Supplies in the storage tanks have fallen after a fluoride problem at a treatment plant. For now, customers will receive water from Durham until Orange County fixes the problem.

Orange Water and Sewer Authority wrote on their website, "Due to low pressure in the OWASA service area we are not sure if the water is safe for consumption. Until testing has been completed, the Orange County Health Department is issuing a Do Not Drink order. Boiling water is not recommended. Only bottled water is recommended. All restaurants served by OWASA are being ordered to close by the Orange County Health Director."

Orange County has also cancelled classes, including UNC-Chapel Hill which warned students and staff to limit their water usage and to not use any water on campus until further notice.
