ZAYN Says The 'Self-Indulgent' Met Gala Red Carpet Isn't For Him

Directioners will be the first to tell you how important strong headspace is to ZAYN and the pop superstar's new cover story of GQ showcases just that, but keeping that mentality sometimes sees the star stray away from typical high-profile celebrity events like New York City's annual Met Gala.

On Monday (June 18), GQ unveiled the singer's interview for the July 2018 issue and it sees the 25-year-old star speak candidly about the affair, which he attended once as his favorite Mortal Kombat character, Jax, alongside girlfriend Gigi Hadid. "The Met Gala is not necessarily anything that I ever knew about or was about. But my [former] stylist…would say to me, 'This is really good for you to do.' And no matter how strong you are mentally, you can always be swayed to do a certain thing," the Brit recalled of the 2016 appearance. "Now, it's not something I would go to. I'd rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet."

ZAYN went on to explain that the atmosphere is simply everything he detests about being a famous person. "To do the self-indulgent 'Look at me, I'm amazing' thing on the red carpet, it's not me," he continued. "I get it, and I understand that people gain enjoyment from it."

Elsewhere in the cover story, the chart-topper spoke about the status of his relationship with supermodel Gigi Hadid, who he seemed to romantically reunite with after a mini-break. "We're adults. We don't need to put a label on it, make it something for people's expectations," he admitted. "I had a very negative outlook on things. That might have been adolescence or testosterone or whatever the f**k was running through my body at the time. She's helped me to look at things from a positive angle."
