Similar to their recent MTV EMA performance, Green Day celebrated past and present on Sunday's (November 24) American Music Awards by performing a medley of their breakout hit, "Basket Case," and "Father of All" from their upcoming album, Father of All Motherf**kers — and the crowd ate it up.
For their set at the ceremony, which was hosted by Ciara at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, Bille Joe Armstrong and company took to the stage after introductions by Billie Eilish. For their performance of the tracks, the rock vets reminded viewers — both new and old — just who they were in celebration of the 25th anniversary of their breakout album, Dookie. The group kicked off the number with their new single, before turning their attention to the past with "Basket Case," and it was clear that the audience, more specifically, Eilish, Kelly Osbourne and Post Malone, knew all about their legacy. Yes, even 17-year-old Eilish.
Prior to the big show, Armstrong hinted that the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers would be siding with Taylor Swift's side in her battle against her ex label, Big Machine Records, and industry titan Scooter Braun, who acquired her back catalog of master records. The latter reportedly prevented her from singing her old hits at the ceremony. Over on Instagram Story, he shared a photo with handwritten lyrics to her 2015 single, "Bad Blood." "AMA rehearsal," Armstrong captioned the shot on the band's account. Stay tuned to see how that unfolds.
