Several North Carolina school districts neighboring Wake County will be reopening for in-person classes this week, despite a rising trend of positive COVID-19 tests in the state.
The following schools will be allowing students to return to the classroom this week, according to ABC 11:
- Johnston County Schools will allow first and second grade students to return to in-person learning for all five days a week. The district will also bring grades 6 through 12 back two days a week, with students being divided into groups.
- Chatham County Schools will be open to kindergarten, first and second grade students for two days beginning this week.
- Nash County Schools will transition into plan B of its reopening plan, which will combine in-person and virtual learning options, for kindergarten through third grade students beginning this week.
- Cumberland County Schools will allow student-athletes to participate in outside workouts beginning this week.
On Sunday, the North Carolina Health Department reported a total of 246,028 total cases of COVID-19, which included 2,303 new cases in a 24-hour span and was the fourth consecutive day with more than 2,000 new cases reported.
The state also reported a 6.1% positive test rate on Sunday, which was a decrease from the 6.6% reported on Saturday.
