When law enforcement officers in North Carolina discovered several firearms during a recent drug bust, they found an unusual weapon. What at first glance appeared to be a Nerf children's toy gun was actually a real firearm, ABC 11 reports.
According to the Catawba County Sheriff's Office, a joint narcotics investigation with the CCSO, Hickory Police Department, and the Newton Police Department led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Old Catawba Road on Wednesday (March 17). During the bust, police found cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, and marijuana. They also discovered around $2,300 and a total of 20 firearms, including pistols, rifles, and shotguns.
One of the seized weapons included a modified firearm made to look like a toy Nerf gun. According to police, the converted Glock pistol had a 50-round drum magazine. They also said that while the gun was concerning, it was not illegal.
Police arrested and charged 35-year-old Damien Alonzo Burch, of Catawba, with felonious possession of cocaine, felonious possession of mushrooms, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
"Another success resulting from our area Narcotics Teams working together," said Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown. "Our agencies pooling their resources allows for a greater impact to be felt county wide."
