Newly acquired New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams called out the team's glaring issues after his first game with the team.
Adams addressed reports that he gave a speech in the Jets' locker room after their 37-15 Sunday Night Football loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, despite having only joined the team days prior, while speaking to reporters on Wednesday (October 23).
“Obviously, there was a lack of energy and urgency out there. It was apparent,” Adams said via the New York Post. “I’ve played on teams that have that winning culture. Basically, I took a moment to let them know. I had reservations about speaking up too early and being too vocal too early, but in my mind I said, ‘F that’ because we don’t have time. I’ve got to do whatever I’ve got to do to help this team move forward.
“I wouldn’t have been able to sleep if I didn’t speak up on it.”
Adams recorded three receptions for 30 yards, despite being targeted nine times by Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, his former teammate for his first eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers claimed the receiver's speech was well received by teammates.
“I thought it was the realest speech I’ve ever heard in a locker room in 20 years,” Rodgers said via the New York Post.
The Jets fell to 2-5 after Sunday's loss and will face the AFC East Division rival New England Patriots (1-6) on Sunday (October 27).
