This might be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly believe the original, unreleased 2009 version of The 1975's 'Robbers' is better than the song from their 2014 self-titled album. HOT TAKE!
In fact, the original song is from The 1975 before they were the 1975! (Re)Introducing Drive Like I Do. Here's the way 'Robbers' originally sounded, and I'm flipping obsessed.
Just to compare, here's the much more produced, polished version of the track that we heard on The 1975's 2014 self-titled album.
Still with me? GOOD.
According to The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, plans to release a Drive Like I Do album as his "side project" are in the works for next year! Now you'll know that this was actually the birthplace of many of our favorite tracks from The 1975 as we know them today. Allow me to share a few examples:
Original Drive Like I Do version of 'Chocolate'
Holy sh*t, would give anything to have been at this show...
This was 'Sex' before The 1975
Love this acoustic version, but I don't get the hat, Matty... I mean, it was 2009 after all.
Thanks for letting me nerd out over this band. So stoked for The 1975's new album:
