Swift has been embroiled in a very public feud with her former record label boss, Scott Borchetta. Borchetta sold Big Machine records to Scooter Braun. As a result, Braun acquired Swift's catalog of master recordings along with the rights. West wants to help Swift get them back.
The two famously fell out in 2009 when West interrupted Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. They later reconciled their differences, but things turned sour again.
