The toilet is 65% smaller and almost 50% lighter than toilets the ISS currently uses. The design's tilted seat and redesigned funnels better accommodate women. According to 'The Guardian,' astronauts will test the new toilet over the next few months aboard a cargo ship set to launch Thursday.
"The toilet system also has a lower mass than prior systems, is simpler to use, provides increased crew comfort and performance, and treats urine so it can be safely processed by the spacecraft recycling systems," NASA, via report. The toilet will have its own stall and sit next to the old one, which was designed in the 90s, on America's side of the space station. The new, smaller toilet will also be able to fit into NASA Orion capsules for future moon missions.
