According to a recently released NASA report on annual temperatures. 2020 either tied or was hotter than the previous hottest year on record, 2016. The report states that the earth's temperature has increased by at least 2.2 degrees Fahrenheit since the pre-industrial age. A separate, multinational report published this week revealed that the earth's oceans also broke warm temperature records in 2020.
Scientists widely agree that global warming is largely the result of human-produced carbon emissions. The ten warmest years on record have all occurred since 2005. The dramatic rise in temperature is thought to be responsible for the unprecedented 22 weather disasters that occurred in 2020.
