Staff Shortage Cause Prison Closures in NC

State Officials have begun conversations about their plans on closing down 3 minimum security prisons, in hopes to improve safety and overall conditions of the prisons here in the state. The lack in numbers have affected aspects such as daily operations, the ability of staff to being able to take leave, attend training's and, most importantly, interrupted the delivery of programs to inmates. Hoke Correctional Institution in Raeford, Tyrrell Prison Work Farm in Columbia and Odom Correctional Institution in Jackson are the operations headed for closure. The staff will be distributed to other prisons operating with few employees.
