Haunting of Hill House Creator Teases 'Much Scarier' Second Season

Though we don't know when just yet, the highly anticipated follow up to Netflix's original horror series The Haunting of Hill House is coming. Instead of following the Craine family for another season, the second season will be known as The Haunting of Bly Manor and will tell a completely new (and scary) story. According to the horror anthology's creator, the sophomore season is going to seriously up the scare factor. If you've seen the first season, you know that means you're going to have to watch Bly Manor with all the lights on.

While Hill House was based on Shirley Jackson's iconic 1959 novel of the same name, Bly Manor will be based on Henry James' 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw. Series creator Mike Flanagan recently revealed, though, they'll be pulling spooky inspiration from James' other works, as well. “We’re looking at all the ghost stories of Henry James as the jumping-off point for the season, so it very much is a whole new deal,” he explained to Birth.Movies.Death.. “It’s a cool way to expand on some of the things I loved about Season 1, but within the framework of a new story, without having to be restrained by the decisions we made last time.”

“For Henry James fans, it’s going to be pretty wild, and for people who aren’t familiar with his work, it’s going to be unbelievably scary. I already think it’s much scarier than season 1, so I’m very excited about it," he continued.

Though The Haunting will follow new characters every season, it appears the show is taking notes from fellow horror anthology series American Horror Story and recasting the same actors. Victoria Pedretti and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, who played twins Nell and Luke Craine in the first season, will star in Bly Manor. “We’re hanging the season on Victoria Pedretti and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and in addition to them, there are going to be other familiar actors from season 1,” Flanagan teased. “Beyond that, I’ve got quite a few candidates among new faces who I really love, but we haven’t formally cast anybody yet.”

Pedretti revealed a few details about her new character Dani on Twitter, describing her as “a governess who takes care of two very unusual children.” Nell Craine/The Bent Neck Lady will definitely be a tough role to top, but we're excited to see just how scary Bly Manor turns out to be. Are you?
