Cardi B had to spend some major guap to shoot her music video for “WAP.”
The Bronx-born rapper dished on the budgets for several of her most popular visuals, claiming that the video for her chart-topping single with Megan Thee Stallion cost her $1 million to make.
Taking to Twitter, Cardi shared the prices she paid to shoot videos for singles like “Bodak Yellow,” “Money” and “Please Me” with Bruno Mars.
“Fun fact : Bodak yellow music video cost me 15 thousand dollars .I was in Dubai and I said ....I gotta fly picture (videographer) out here ...BOOM BOOM BANG ! Ya know the rest,” she tweeted, adding, “Money cost 400K ,Please me Cost 900K ,Wap Cost a M!”
Detailing the cost of her 2017 “Lick” video, which featured her would-be husband Offset, the 28-year-old emcee said it took “15K” to shoot. “Offset had a 40K wardrobe fee for videos so I had to pay it out my pocket cause I didn’t wanna look like a small artist with a tiny a— music video budget,” Cardi explained. “I told him like a year later 😩😩😂😂”
As for the unsung “Bartier Cardi” video, the Grammy winner noted, “Bartier was like 150K and I was pregnant so I was trying my best to conceal my tiny belly.”
It should come as no surprise that “WAP” took so much to make, having including a multitude of flashy (and albeit controversial) CGI big cat visuals as well as multiple high-profile cameos from the likes of Normani and Rosalia.
Despite its history-making performance on the charts, though, Cardi had a pretty valid reason for not submitting “WAP” to be considered at this year’s Grammys.
