Amazon Ad Activates Alexa, Orders Cat Food: A commercial for an Amazon Echo Dot activated a viewer’s real Echo Dot and ordered cat food. The ad shows people using the device for their everyday needs including one man who says, “Alexa, re-order Purina cat food.” Amazon claims they mark ads to prevent them from activating real devices in homes. Customers are also asked to confirm the purchase or it will be cancelled automatically. Amazon did find that the customer’s device did order the cat food the same day the commercial aired, but it was cancelled.
