Waiter Admits He Made Up Racist Tipper Story

A Texas waiter apparently bit off more than he could chew after cooking up a heck of a story about a racist customer who he claimed refused to tip him for being a “terrorist.” Turns out it’s all a lie.

Terry Turner, COO of the Texas restaurant Saltgrass Steak House, says that after investigating their server Khalil Cavil’s claim that a customer left a racist message while stiffing him on a $108 meal, they’ve determined the whole thing was made up. "We have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story,” says Turney. “Racism of any form is intolerable. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equaling disturbing.”

Cavil has since been fired - and for what it's worth, he's not proud of what he did. “I did write it,” Cavil offers. “I don’t have an explanation. I made a mistake. There is no excuse for what I did.” He's also apologized to the reporter that originally interviewed him.

  • The whole conflamma began when Cavil took to Facebook claiming a customer of his withheld a tip for racist reasons. He shared a picture of a bill for a $108 meal with a $0 tip, complete with a note from the supposedly racist patron that said, “We don’t tip terrorist” with a circle around the server’s Arabic first name.
