Horror movies almost never get nominated for Oscars, and they win even less frequently. But the genre has its staunch defenders and puts fannies in seats, which helps explain why The Ringer decided to hold its own mythical Best Horror Film Oscars, selecting the finest scary movie for each year since Halloween was released in 1978 (Halloween 2018 comes out later this month).
