The big takeaways are to make your children feel safe. Tell them the facts and let them guide the conversation afterward. Give kids a sense of power and responsibility and let them know what they should expect in the next weeks and months.
Also, keep in mind your child's developmental stage. You don't want to overload them with the information they might not be able to process yet. Try to maintain a normal schedule, show off the behavior you want them to emulate and finally, take care of yourself as a parent so you can take care of your children.
