Wake County officials announced Sunday that three more people have tested positive for COVID-19. The announcement came as county officials revealed sweeping new restrictions.
The three new infections bring the total of COVID-19 cases in Wake County to 52, according to county officials.
There are another 54 people who have been exposed to coronavirus and are sick. Those people are being investigated for having COVID-19, a Wake County news release said.
The new county restrictions, which call for the closure of certain kinds of businesses, are set to start at 8 a.m. Monday and last until April 30, officials said.
The new rules — aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19 — also change visitation practices at nursing homes and restrict the use of playground equipment at parks.
“By putting these new restrictions and recommendations into effect, we’re slowing the spread of the virus,” Wake County Board of Commissioners Chairman Greg Ford said in a news release.
The new restrictions also prohibit gatherings of 50 people or more.
Here is a list of the types of businesses that are impacted by the new restrictions:
Fitness centers and clubs
Gyms
Hair salons
Barber shops
Nail salons
Spas
Tanning salons
Massage establishments
Tattoo parlors
Any professional grooming services
To deal with the business closures, the county set up a dedicated phone line at 919-856-7420 to address business-specific questions.
