Melissa Etheridge's 21-year-old son Beckett Cypher has died. The tragic news was revealed Wednesday through Etheridge's Twitter account. "We’re sad to inform you that Melissa’s son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today," the tweet reads.
The singer mourned her son in a social media post on Wednesday.
"Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction," Etheridge wrote on Twitter. "My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today. He will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends."
She added: "My heart is broken."
Cypher was born to Etheridge and Julie Cypher in 1998 by way of artificial insemination. He was the pair's second child, following the birth of Bailey Jean a year earlier. The couple broke up in 2000.
