“Riverdale” stars Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart are speaking out after being accused of sexual misconduct along with two of their co-stars. The TV stars started trending on Twitter over the weekend as multiple anonymous accounts popped up with allegations of sexual misconduct against Sprouse, Reinhart, Vanessa Morgan and KJ Apa.
According to a screenshot shared by “Daily Mail,” Sprouse was accused of taking advantage of a drunk girl identified only as Victoria at one of his New York University parties. Accusations against the other “Riverdale” stars popped up soon after, but a screenshot shared on Twitter shows that the same account accusing Reinhart later admitted to falsely accusing Morgan and Apa as well.
Sprouse has since taken to Twitter denying the “factually untrue” allegations, and condemning “false accusations” that can “do tremendous damage to victims of actual assault.” Reinhart has reposted his response along with her own, saying she’s “always taken sexual assault allegations seriously” but that it was “proven” that the anonymous Twitter account was made “specifically to create false stories” about the “Riverdale” cast. Check out the tweets below.
The accused aren’t the only “Riverdale” stars speaking out.Camila Mendeshas piped up to defend her co-stars, calling it “incredibly destructive to falsely accuse people of sexual assault.”
Madelaine Petsch has also spoken out in defense of her co-stars, saying she’s “deeply disturbed” by the false accusations as a victim of sexual assault herself. “This is why real assault allegations can sometimes not be taken seriously, you should be ashamed,” she writes. “This is disgusting.”
