Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson recently gave viewers a lesson in how to make toast. Yes, toast.
On an episode of her BBC2 series Cook, Eat, Repeat, Nigella explained her “two-stage buttering approach,” which involves buttering toast twice. As the camera zoomed in on a piece of buttered bread, she said, “So far, only stage one has taken place. That’s to say, the minute this came out of the toaster and it was still lovely and hot, I spread it with butter so that the butter has melted down into it. And it’ll give it a fabulous crumpet-y bite.”
Stage two involved putting “a little more butter” on top to weigh down the first round, and then she finished it off with a sprinkling of salt.
Fans mocked the lesson. One Twitter user said, “5 minutes I will never get back." Another said, "Shook to the core that #Nigella invented buttered toast."
